• Remaining Phase 3 drill holes extend depth and strike of lithium mineralisation at WinBin
  • Pegmatite C holes also confirm broader mineralised zone extends further northwest through co-joined WinBin/Pegmatite C Extension
  • Prospect Resources has started Phase 4 drilling targeting southern extension of WinBin
  • Programme also follows up on high grade intersection at Pegmatite E

Special Report: Remaining assay results from Phase 3 drilling at Prospect Resources’ Step Aside lithium project in Zimbabwe have extended the depth and strike continuity of mineralisation at the WinBin discovery.

The discovery of a high-grade spodumene mineralised pegmatite at the WinBin target in October 2023 had lent support to the company’s belief that Step Aside could be within the same mineralised system as the 72.7Mt Arcadia project, which it sold to Huayou Cobalt in mid-2022 for about US$422m in cash.

Eager to repeat its previous win, Prospect Resources (ASX:PSC) proceeded to accelerate its Phase 3 diamond drilling programme at the project.

This proved to be a wise decision with initial assays serving to not only expand the WinBin discovery but also demonstrate the mineralised feeder zone continues through to an extension of Pegmatite C, which was targeted during earlier drilling programmes.

WinBin is also interpreted to be a feeder system that generated the pegmatite swarms defined in earlier drilling campaigns.

Assays expand WinBin mineralised zone

The assays from the remaining 11 holes from Phase 3 diamond drilling returned significant intersections that topped up at 63.1m @ 1.17% Li2O from a down-hole depth of 74.9m, including 41m @ 1.49% Li2O from 97m.

Notably for PSC, the results demonstrate the high-grade mineralised zone at WinBin extends for considerable depth and strike from the initial discovery cluster and remains open to the south.

Adding further interest, drill holes targeting Pegmatite C also confirm that a broader mineralised zone continues further northwest through the co-joined WinBin/Pegmatite C Extension.

“We are very pleased with the final outcomes from the Phase 3 drilling completed at Step Aside last year,” PSC Managing Director Sam Hosack said.

“The WinBin discovery has continued to return exceptional intercepts, demonstrating its high-grade character and delivering ongoing growth in its strike and depth extents.

“The commencement of Phase 4 drilling at Step Aside is another significant milestone, with this programme targeted to test the potential continuation of the WinBin strike extent to the south, as well as testing in the area of the high-grade intersections previously returned around Pegmatite E further north.”

Phase 4 drilling under way

PSC has now started the 2,000m Phase 4 diamond drilling programme targeting the extension of WinBin further south.

It will also follow-up on high-grade intersections at Pegmatite E such as 3.49m @ 1.59% Li2O from 67.96m.

Pegmatite E is currently interpreted to strike over about 150m trending to the northwest.

In addition, preliminary metallurgical test work studies are now under way.
