Assay results from the remaining holes from Future Battery Minerals’ Phase 2 RC drilling program at the Kangaroo Hills Lithium Project (KHLP) in WA have flagged yet more high-grade lithium.

The assay results further support the significance – and scale – of the recent discovery at the Big Red prospect, and included:

  • 23m at 1.03% Li2O from 53m (KHRC031);
  • 15m at 1.03% Li2O from 39m (KHRC029); and
  • 13m at 1.23% Li2O from 41m (KHRC030).

The shallow thick high-grade mineralisation remains open to north and north west, indicating the need for further follow up drilling to test extensions to the mineralisation.

The results also uncovered a new pegmatite at the Rocky prospect which returned 5m at 1.12% Li2O from 104m (KHRC037) just 500m from the Big Red discovery which may be connected, the company says.

The company plans to kick off Phase 3 drilling within the week.

Clearly confirmed Big Red’s potential

The assay results from the remaining Phase 2 five DD holes are still pending, with core samples to be used in the early-stage metallurgical test work with results expected in the September 2023 quarter.

Additionally, all samples returned from the Phase 2 program which intercepted >1% Li2O have been submitted for quantitative X-Ray Diffraction mineralogy.

“Following the return of assay results from the Phase 2 RC drill program, the company is excited to get back on the ground drilling at the KHLP,” Future Battery Minerals (ASX:FBM) technical director Robin Cox said.

“The assay results have clearly confirmed the exciting potential of the Big Red Prospect, as additional shallow high-grade results have been received from the March 2023 discovered pegmatite.

“Significantly, the results from KHRC037 have also confirmed the potential of the Rocky Prospect.”

Phase 3 drilling by the end of the month

A fully funded 4,000m RC Phase 3 Drilling program is set to commence within the week, infilling the Big Red Prospect and testing regional targets at Rocky, Eastern Grey, Wallaroo and Pademelon.

The expanded program will now total 7,000-10,000m of RC and diamond drilling (DD) to test the northern extension and resistivity target at the Big Red Prospect – and is expected to commence shortly once permitting is received.

“By the end of June, the Phase 3 drilling program will have commenced, aiming to test the scale of Big Red and the regional prospects identified through the ongoing target generation,” Cox said.

“This program represents a significant and expansive next phase at the KHLP.”
