Metal Hawk’s diamond drilling program at the Commodore prospect is off to a good start with the first hole intersecting a 3.4m zone of nickel sulphide mineralisation.

The zone of matrix and heavily disseminated nickel sulphide mineralisation near the basal contact of targeted ultramafic rocks in BVD001 is located about 50m from the discovery reverse circulation hole BVNC002, which intersected 1m grading 5.89% nickel from a depth of 144m.

Metal Hawk (ASX:HWK) adds that the mineralisation is located 90m above the top of the downhole electromagnetic (DHEM) conductor plate CMA_01 that was identified from surveying of three RC holes.

Commodore is located within its Berehaven nickel project located just 20km southeast of Kalgoorlie.

“This is a great result from our first diamond hole at Commodore which shows that the nickel sulphide system continues at depth towards the DHEM conductor, which we are now testing with deeper drilling,” managing director Will Belbin said.

“With two rigs now on site we are looking forward to more exploration success on this very exciting project.”

Other drilling

The company has also completed three RC holes along strike from BVNC002 that intersected the target ultramafic stratigraphy. These will be further tested at depth with diamond drilling and DHEM.

BVNC004 intersected 13m of highly weathered and ferruginous ultramafic rocks from a depth of 132m while BVNC005 struck a zone of ultramafic rocks from 138m to 157m with stringer and disseminated nickel sulphide mineralisation at 155m to 157m.

BVNC006 intersected the target ultramafic unit from 151m to 164m with no visible sulphide mineralisation.

Work ahead

Diamond drilling is continuing with BVD002 targeting the mineralised zone at depth and testing the DHEM conductor CMA_001.

All diamond holes will be cased and surveyed with DHEM to define new drill targets.

RC drilling will also continue to explore the strike extent of ultramafic rocks and provide pre-collars to fast track diamond drilling.
