• Legacy Minerals’ rock chip sampling returns up to 9.32% copper, confirms widespread mineralisation at Crystal Hill
  • Work identifies multiple new workings and vein trends while defining 3km2 area of anomalous mineralisation
  • Crystal Hill is less than 20km from the large Bushranger porphyry deposit

Special Report: Rock chip sampling at Legacy Minerals’ Rockley project in NSW’s rich Lachlan Fold Belt, has confirmed widespread oxide copper mineralisation at the Crystal Hill prospect.

The rock chips collected during geological mapping returned anomalous results of up to 9.32% copper, 3.9g/t gold, 415g/t silver and 0.66% antimony associated with quartz veined and brecciated Ordovician mafic-ultramafic rocks.

Mapping also identified multiple new workings and vein trends, defining a 3km2 area of anomalous mineralisation.

Legacy Minerals (ASX:LGM) notes the untested Crystal Hill prospect, which has only seen a small number of shallow reconnaissance holes drilled over 25 years ago, is less than 20km from the large Bushranger porphyry deposit, which is hosted in the same aged volcanics and has extremely thick drill intercepts of up to 920m grading 0.3% copper from 110m.

Adding further interest, the latest soil sampling results at the prospect have mapped a large zone of strongly elevated porphyry pathfinder elements including gold, silver, arsenic, copper, molybdenum and antimony.

The major trend coincides with a magnetic low anomaly that potentially reflects magnetite destruction through hydrothermal alteration.

Discovery potential

Managing director Christopher Byrne said the results from work targeting porphyry copper and gold mineralisation at Crystal Hill follow the recent identification of high-grade silver and gold at Black Range and continues to demonstrate the depth of targets and the discovery potential across the company’s portfolio.

“These new rock chip sample assay results and soil anomalies support our belief that the Rockley project may host significant copper-gold mineralisation similar to the nearby Racecourse porphyry copper deposit and giant Cadia-Ridgeway deposit,” he added.

“These latest results, across a large 4km2 area, confirm widespread oxide copper mineralisation including anomalous porphyry pathfinder elements. Fundamental to the prospectivity is that Rockley is hosted in the same age volcanic rocks as the Cadia-Ridgeway, Racecourse, and Boda deposits.

“The ground has had very limited exploration for porphyry-related Cu-Au systems and the independent, positive prospectivity ranking identified by the Geological Survey of NSW gives further encouragement for the discovery potential of this area.”

Other activity

Byrne added the company is currently carrying out work across its Drake, Black Range and Thomson projects as well as with earn-in partner Newmont at the Bauloora project.

Its tenure in NSW covers ~8000km2 and encompasses several significant, district sized projects.

“In parallel, Legacy Minerals is continuing to advance our pipeline of compelling gold, silver, and copper opportunities,” he said.
