• IDA spots titanium source rock at Gawler Craton project in SA
  • Carne prospect also returns up to 8m at 1.3% titanium from 12m
  • Project shaping up to host gold, REEs and titanium

Special Report: Indiana Resources has identified titanium source rocks at the Carne titanium prospect within its Gawler Craton project in South Australia, just 20km from Petratherm’s Rosewood titanium deposit.

The project sits between the historic gold mining centres of Tunkillia and Tarcoola, and is already prospective for gold and rare earths. Focus has been on the Minos prospects where just last week the company reported 45.8g/t gold from RC drilling.

And Indiana Resources (ASX:IDA) has now discovered several occurrences of the Muckanippie Suite Anorthosite (the source rock for the Rosewood deposit) at the Carne prospect where drilling has also returned up to 8m at 1.3% titanium from 12m.

Titanium dioxide feedstocks are seeing growing demand from technology and defence applications such as electric vehicles, battery storage, wind turbines and as a steel alloy and even in pigments.

It all bodes well for IDA, especially with neighbour Petratherm turning heads and reporting samples this week averaging a 25.3% rutile product containing high-titanium leucoxene and rutile with an average TiO2 grade of 93%.

“The Carne titanium prospect has excellent geological credentials and the right address for a titanium discovery,” CEO Lindsay Owler said.

“Indiana’s 2025 exploration program is shaping-up to be fast-paced and exciting, with several advanced gold and now titanium targets set to be drilled.

“We have a hot market for titanium, a stream of gold results from ongoing drilling at the Minos gold prospect, and are fully funded to progress exploration with commitment and focus.”

Follow-up drilling on the cards

Looking ahead, permitting is underway at Carne in advance of 2025 field activities with follow-up drilling now a high priority.

The program will involve mapping, sampling and aircore drilling. Mapping will target sedimentary accumulation sites such as palaeochannels and small sedimentary basins where dense titanium minerals, eroded from the identified source rocks, may have become concentrated.

Meanwhile, diamond drilling continues at the Minos gold project targeting high-grade extensions and a delineation of a resource this year.

IDA expects to announce further assays from Minos in the coming weeks.
