Special Report: Indiana Resources says assays from RC drilling at the Minos prospect within its Central Gawler Craton exploration project in South Australia have returned up to 7428ppm total rare earth oxide and up to 3643ppm magnetic rare earth oxides.
The company holds around 5713km2 between the historic gold mining centres of Tunkillia (965,000 ounce gold resource) and Tarcoola (15,800 ounce gold resource).
While mining in the region has historically focussed on gold, there are exciting rare earth opportunities to be found – evidenced by the latest impressive results from Indiana’s RC drilling of eight holes for 576m.
The results have confirmed the continuity and high-grade of the mineralisation and provided additional sample material for metallurgical test work.
High-grade clay hosted total rare earth oxides and magnetic rare earth oxides results include:
The company says these latest results have significantly increased the confidence in the current geological interpretation, and they will also be used to optimise the spacing of future drilling campaigns.
“Minos continues to demonstrate its potential to host both high-grade REE and gold mineralisation, with these latest drilling results confirming the high-grade and continuity of the REE mineralised zone in focus,” Indiana Resources (ASX:IDA) executive chair Bronwyn Barnes said.
“Supported by the recent beneficiation test results, the REE potential at Minos is clear and we are planning drill programs for November that will follow up both gold and REE potential and will be looking to expand our knowledge of Minos and the broader Lake Labyrinth Shear Zone.”
Notably, earlier this month the company reported initial hydrometallurgical test work produced 90.5% TREE, 87.8% heavy REE and 90.8% light REE recovery.
Future work will include infill RC, metallurgical diamond drilling, along with more hydrometallurgical test work later this year.
