Special Report: Further high-grade drilling results have highlighted the potential for Great Southern’s Mon Ami gold project near Laverton, WA, to keep growing.

The 20-hole program to test the mineralised north-northeast striking regional shear zone returned notable results such as 11m grading 7.9 grams per tonne (g/t) gold including 4m at 15.9g/t gold from 26m and 4m at 12.4g/t gold from 80m.

Great Southern Mining (ASX:GSN) says the high-grade gold zones are interpreted to be localised at the intersection of crosscutting splays along the regional shear, with drilling and recent mapping identifying a number of these splay zones providing immediate follow-up drill targets.

Mon Ami remains ‘open’ along strike and at depth with little drilling outside the existing area.

Open just means the company hasn’t found the edges of this potentially massive system just yet.

Plenty of exploration upside

“The latest round of drilling at Mon Ami has highlighted the significant potential of this project to grow both in terms of grade and ounces. It just needs more drilling,” executive chairman John Terpu said.

“The shear zone is the target area that keeps on producing significant intersections. What is more compelling is that we now are seeing the high-grade mineralisation close to surface.

“This is a significant development for the project as it has highlighted that there is potential to raise the grade profile if we can continue to discover these high-grade quartz veins.”

Great Southern will now interpret the new drill results and geological findings to aid in the next round of planned drilling.

Historical resource in a prolific gold province

While the company’s recent activity has focused on the Cox’s Find project, it has certainly not forgotten Mon Ami, which is one of its most advanced projects with a resource of 59,000 ounces of gold grading 1.7g/t.

Mon Ami sits within the Mt Margaret Mineral Field of the northeastern goldfields of Western Australia about 14km east of the Granny Smith Mill and 12km southeast of Laverton.

The Laverton region has a well-documented gold endowment of more than 25 million ounces and includes the world class Sunrise Dam and Wallaby deposits.

Great Southern previously noted that the exploration target for the tenement was orogenic gold mineralisation associated with a north-northeast striking regional shear zone that was up to 50m wide.

Gold mineralisation is concentrated within the shear zone, which hosts several historical shafts that extracted gold in the early 19th century.

Additionally, metallurgical test work carried out by the company has already indicated that conventional carbon-in-leach or carbon-in-pulp processing is all that is required to treat Mon Ami ore and achieve recoveries of over 95 per cent.
