• Channel sampling results have been returned at the Blakala prospect on the Gouna permit in Mali
  • Results point to both the Western and Eastern pegmatites as additional high-grade mineralised and mapped targets
  • Diamond drilling continues on the Western and Eastern pegmatites

Special Report: Channel sampling results in eastern and western pegmatite bodies at the Blackala prospect, part of First Lithium’s Gouna permit in Mali, paint an exciting picture of its potential size.

First Lithiums’ (ASX:FL1) Blakala prospect has been the focus of recent exploration and diamond core drilling with 2,300m of a 6,000m program having identified over 911m of spodumene bearing pegmatites.

Visual estimates have also confirmed up to 20% spodumene, pointing to a world-class deposit whose resource potential grows with each drillhole completed.

Blakala is less than 5km from the main highway connecting it to the port of Abidjan with other lithium exploration companies in the area being Leo Lithium (ASX:LLL) and Kodal Minerals (LON.KOD).

Channel sampling results

The channel sampling analytical results are seen as representative of the grades at surface from the pegmatite outcrop which is only slightly weathered, with results including:

  • 1.94% Li2O over 19m;
  • 1.87% Li2O over 18m; and
  • 1.90% Li2O over 22m.

Of the 87 individual outcrop channel samples from the second set of channel sampling results, 64 samples are >1.50% Li2O.

FL1 says these results validate the Eastern and Western pegmatites as additional high-grade and wide spodumene mineralised targets.

Results from channel BCH03, situated 160m southwest along strike on the Main pegmatite have established high-grade mineralisation continuity.

Results point to high-grade spodumene targets

“The further encouraging outcropping results continue to create an image of the size and scope of the Main, Eastern and Western pegmatites all identifying high grade spodumene targets,” FL1 managing director Venkat Padala says.

“With over 28% of the samples delivering over 2% Li2O and 73.5% of the samples delivering over 1.5% Li2O, the quality of the Blakala prospect is clearly taking shape”.

Meanwhile, diamond drilling is ongoing on the Western and Eastern pegmatites.
