Fin Resources’ maiden fieldwork program at the Ross lithium project in Canada has discovered at least 5 pegmatite bodies, the common host rock for lithium mineralisation.

Ross is around 100km along strike of Nemaska Lithium Corporation’s 36.6 Mt at 1.3% Li20) Whabouchi lithium deposit in the James Bay region.

It’s one of three projects which make up the company’s Mt Tremblant project, which also includes the Cancet West and Gaspe projects.

At Cancet West, Fin Resources (ASX:FIN) wasted no time in staking an additional 56 claims to increase the project area by 57% after maiden field work there discover outcropping spodumene crystals.

No word yet if the company has the same plans for the Ross project, where assays are pending from outcrop and rock samples collected during the field visit.

Pegmatites may extend for some distance

In total, 5 pegmatite bodies with feldspar crystals up to 20cm in diameter were mapped across Ross within host amphibolite or granite.

The presence of pockets of fine-grained red garnets within at least two of the pegmatite bodies may indicate an evolved pegmatite system at Ross that could be related to the emplacement of an LCT pegmatite.

One of the areas hosts multiple outcrops and a large pegmatite boulder field with a strike length of 200 to 300 meters and FIN says these pegmatite bodies may extend for significant distances, along strike and below surface.

Follow up fieldwork underway at Cancet West

Follow up fieldwork at Cancet West is now underway, focussing on the spodumene rich outcrop and the outcrops defined during the maiden field work program, within the newly expanded 15.8km strike of the highly prospective LCT pegmatite Trend at Cancet West.

“We are very excited to be able to get back out Cancet West so quickly to further explore where after only a couple of days in the field we were able to discover an outcropping pegmatite that hosts 30cm green spodumene crystals,” chairman Jason Bontempo said.

“The initial results found across Cancet West and Ross have both Fin and our geological consultants at Mercator really excited for what is to come from the projects and we can’t wait to progress these targets to be drill ready for this coming winter!”

Assays from previous maiden site visit are also expected in the coming weeks.
