Tesla revealed plans to build a large battery factory in Shanghai over the weekend, capable of producing 10,000 megapacks units per year which is equal to around 40 gigawatt hours of energy storage.
The automaker made the announcement at a signing ceremony for the project in Shanghai on Sunday after a site visit last weekend.
Construction is set to take place in Q3 this year with the plant to begin production in the second quarter of 2024.

Meanwhile, closer to home, EverGreen Lithium (ASX:EG1) has listed on the ASX following a $7m initial public offering with three projects – Bynoe and Fortune in the Northern Territory and Kenny in Western Australia.
Bynoe is the company’s standout asset where exploration work to date includes completion of an Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) Survey over four individual areas and a stage-2 geochemical sampling program.
The Fortune and Kenny projects are also highly prospective for lithium with Kenny being in close proximity to Liontown’s (ASX:LTR) Buldania project in Western Australia.

Who’s got news out?
GREEN TECHNOLOGY METALS (ASX:GT1)
Green Technology Metals is preparing to undertake further exploration work at the Seymour lithium project in Ontario, Canada with a goal to be construction ready at the site in 2024.
While previous work revolved around accelerated drilling at North Aubry, which saw the mineral resource double, this year GT1 says a maiden drilling program will be focused on the tenements in the north which boast similar structural and geophysical characteristics to North and South Aubry.
WHITE CLIFF MINERALS (ASX:WCN)
White Cliff Minerals has raised received firm commitments for a placement to raise up to $2.325m which will be spent towards ongoing exploration across the highly prospective rare earth element (REE) and lithium project portfolio.
It is anticipated that a meeting will be held in late May 2023 to approve tranche-2 of the placement, as well as the director participation.
In conjunction with capital raising initiatives, the company has appointed Ross Cotton as non-executive director, effective immediately.
ASKARI METALS (ASX:AS2)
Askari has completed the acquisition of the initial 90% interest in EPL 7345 covering an area of around 114km2, forming part of the Uis lithium project in Namibia.
Completion of the acquisition of the remaining 10% interest in EPL 7345 – wholly owned by Kokerboom Mineral Processing – is progressing well and is expected to be completed shortly, Askari says.
