Eye on Lithium: Oil super-major BP is rolling out over 100,000 EV chargers globally
Mining
All your lithium news, Thursday November 17.
Bp has launched its global electrification brand – bp Pulse – in Australia with with global CEO Bernard Looney officially opening the new fast charge points at bp Bayside at Brighton East in Melbourne.
The launch is the commencement of bp’s ambitions for around 600 charge points in Australia and the installation of more than 100,000 EV chargers globally.
Excited to bring our decade of #EV charging experience to Australia with our bp pulse brand. bp has 16,100 EV charge points globally & looks forward to working with partners like the #NSWGovt to begin our EV charging rollout in Australia. @Matt_KeanMP pic.twitter.com/BzIKD89TCu

Bp is backing Australian businesses too, with Brisbane-based manufacturer Tritium supplying the chargers as part of a multi-year contract to deliver for bp’s UK, Australian and New Zealand markets.

SYA has moved to acquire another 985km2 near its Moblan lithium project from TSX-listed Troilus Gold to boost to the company’s emerging northern lithium hub in Quebec, Canada.
Hot on the heels of the recent acquisition of the Vallee lithium project announced yesterday, SYA is paying C$40 million worth of SYA stock as consideration for the claims – which it says have not been extensively explored for lithium.
These claims also offer the potential for eastwards extensions to the Moblan mineralisation, as well as regional targets in the emerging lithium district.
“This is an investment in Sayona’s future production by acquiring nearly 1,000 square kilometres of prospective lithium acreage, more than 200 times the size of our current Moblan project,” managing director David Lynch says.
BUR is acquiring the Chubb Lithium Project in Quebec, Canada in the same neighbourhood as the major North American Lithium (NAL) operation co-owned by Sayona Mining (ASX:SYA) and Piedmont Lithium’s (ASX:PLL).
Burley says drilling at Chubb has confirmed the presence of spodumene-bearing lithium pegmatites in shallow, multiple parallel dykes extending along a strike of 560m and a corridor width of 240m.
The company has also expanded its lithium footprint in Western Australia with the acquisition of the Mt James and Dragon Projects in the central Gascoyne Region.
Global lithium supply chain group, Xiamen Xiangyu New Energy Co, has completed a successful bulk-sample test of brines from Power’s Salta Lithium Project in the lithium triangle of north-west Argentina.
The bulk-sample testing involved 40 litres of brine being extracted from each of the Incahuasi, Rincon and Pocitos salares at the Salta project.
This was then sent to Xiamen Xiangyu for its assessment of the bring quality, which it says is of “sufficient high quality” to progress its MoU.
Under the MoU, both parties will conduct due diligence and enter negotiations with a view to executing a binding off-take, funding and logistics agreement for the Salta Project.
The planning of a site visit by Xiamen Xiangyu management is now underway.
LPI has produced battery grade lithium carbonate with 99.2% purity from its Maricunga lithium production process, significantly exceeding the industry standard specifications.
A relevant test to measure the Loss of Ignition (LOI) was also conducted for 30 minutes at 500 °C, showing an LOI of 0.2%.
As a result, the purity after LOI was 99.72%.
Samples will now be sent to potential off-takers for due diligence as part of the ongoing Maricunga finance process.
A preliminary geochemical review has identified anomalous lithium in soils and streams within Moho’s Burracoppin Project specifically areas 1, 3,4 and 5.
Areas 1,3 and 4, which are situated in higher relief (nondrainage) areas, have soil lithium values >20 ppm and are considered anomalous.
Areas 8-11 are situated in low relief drainage areas and are not regarded as significant at this stage.
MOH says the lithium anomalies are reinforced by soils and streams anomalous in caesium, rubidium, beryllium and niobium which are present at many LCT (lithium caesium tantalum) pegmatites.
Next steps include field mapping, further soil sampling and geochemical analysis over areas with high lithium and REE prospectivity to define drill targets.
Tempest and its wholly owned subsidiary, West Resource Ventures (WRV) – the holder of several lithium tenements in Western Australia – will proceed with a new IPO where WRV will be renamed Electra Minerals.
The new IPO will combine WRV’s Western Australian underexplored hard rock lithium exploration projects with the exciting Smith Creek lithium brine Property in Nevada USA.
WRV proposes to acquire Lithium of Nevada Pty Ltd (LON) which has a binding agreement with TSX-V listed Iconic Minerals Ltd for the rights to acquire up to 50% of the Smith Creek Project.
WRV (as Electra) intends to undertake an IPO in which WRV will seek investors to underpin a maximum of 10% of the pre IPO capital value and will then undertake a capital raising under a prospectus to raise approximately $10mn through the issue of WRV Shares.
“The demerging of the WA lithium assets is an exciting development and will be able to provide greater focus on these high-quality assets,” TEM chairman Brian Moller says.
Cassius has identified multiple pegmatites during initial exploration at Target 1 within the Chenene Lithium Project in Tanzania.
“The discovery of extensive pegmatites at Chenene is extremely encouraging,” CMD chairman James Arkoudis says.
“The confirmed presence of lepidolite, a lithium-rich mica, at the gneiss-hosted Dulu pegmatites is cause for great optimism in the Target 1 assay results expected late December – as well as in the upcoming exploration in Target 2 in PL 11720 where the same geological units have been mapped.”
