Historic gold grades, including a bonanza grade 257g/t, have been uncovered during an open file data review for Desoto’s Shoobridge licences, highlighting the prospectivity of the project.

These newly identified historical results occur at the Barrapool prospect, 40km north of Desoto Resources (ASX:DES) best drill intersections from the Fenton gold project.

High-grade coarse gold pan concentrate stream results include 257g/t gold, 53g/t gold with a repeat sample of 0.39g/t gold, 3.3g/t gold, and 2.33g/t gold with a repeat sample of 46g/t gold.

DES says these assays continue to build on the gold prospectivity of the western Pine Creek region along the Fenton Shear Zone trend with Barrapool representing a strong regional target to complement the Fenton gold project and lithium exploration in the Shoobridge area.

The new results are also in addition to the strong regional gold results already reported south of Pine Creek, including 4.1g/t gold and copper up to 6.5% at the Copperfield prospect.

Discovery of new targets

DES managing director Chris Swallow says it is pleasing that as the company continues to investigate the history and data for its tenements, new regional targets are being discovered.

“The grades uncovered at Barrapool highlight the regional prospectivity for gold and highlight how underexplored the Fenton Shear Zone is,” he adds.

Barrapool prospect to form exploration focus for 2023

While not explored by modern day gold exploration techniques, the Barrapool prospect will form part of the regional exploration focus for the 2023 field season, which commenced this week.

A field team of geologists have been deployed to the Shoobridge area for Lithium-focused exploration.

Given Barrapool’s proximity to key Shoobridge exploration targets, their scope of work has been extended to include mapping and sampling of the Barrapool area for the next phase of work.
