Cosmos Exploration nabs DLE pilot plant to test Bolivian lithium brines

  • C1X optioned entity EAU Lithium acquires A-DLE pilot plant from Vulcan Energy Resources
  • Companies plan to test Bolivian lithium brines with state-owned YLB
  • Deal strengthens exposure to prospective but under-developed lithium regions

Special Report: Cosmos Exploration’s optioned entity EAU Lithium is acquiring an A-DLE direct lithium extraction pilot plant from a Vulcan Energy Resources (ASX:VUL) subsidiary to test Bolivian brines.

The deal marks an important milestone for EAU Lithium as it advances its strategy to evaluate DLE technology in collaboration with Bolivian state lithium company, Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB).

A-DLE technology uses physical processes, optimised by heat and salinity gradients, to selectively extract lithium from brines while minimising water loss and environmental impact.

The company will acquire the Pilot Plant 4 (PP4) in Germany for EUR $1million in staged payments, with conditions precedent including Bolivian Government and YLB approvals, and EAU Lithium raising a minimum of A$2m.

Last year, Cosmos Exploration (ASX:C1X) signed an exclusive option agreement to acquire EAU Lithium, which is part-owned by VUL – and maintains an exclusive option agreement to acquire 100% of the company.

Enhances Bolivian lithium exposure

EAU has a technology-testing agreement to test lithium brines from Salar de Coipasa, Salar de Empexa and Salar de Pastos Grandes salars – some of the largest salars in Bolivia – using VUL’s A-DLE technology.

This facility is expected to play an important role in supporting Bolivia’s vision for the sustainable industrialisation of its lithium resources, with EAU Lithium an emerging leader in the initiative.

For Cosmos, the agreement further strengthens its exposure to one of the world’s most prospective but under-developed lithium regions.

“The execution of this Sale Agreement by EAU Lithium marks an important step in advancing the evaluation of sustainable Direct Lithium Extraction technology on Bolivian brines,” C1X executive chairman Jeremy Robinson said.

“For Cosmos, the agreement enhances our exposure to Bolivia’s globally significant lithium potential in a structured and disciplined manner.

“We are pleased to support EAU Lithium as it progresses its partnership with YLB, the Bolivian Government and indigenous communities.”
