Special Report: Diamond drilling at Charger Metals’ Medcalf prospect – within its Lake Johnston lithium project in WA’s Yilgarn province – has intersected further high-grade stacked spodumene-bearing pegmatites.
The 2024 diamond drilling program was designed to test depth extensions of lithium mineralisation intersected by the 41-hole reverse circulation drilling program completed last year.
Notable intersections were 4m at 2.06% Li2O from 145m, 6m at 1.56% Li2O from 19m and 6m at 1.52% Li2O from 26m, with pegmatites intersected on nearly every drill section.
This year’s drilling at Lake Johnston is funded by Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO), which has currently budgeted $3 million for exploration under a farm-in agreement with Charger Metals (ASX:CHR).
CHR says diamond drilling at Medcalf had returned high-grade stacked spodumene-bearing pegmatites grading up to 3.21% Li2O.
This includes the best ever results at Medcalf with hole CLMDD001 returning over 35m of high-grade spodumene-bearing pegmatite and significant intersections such as:
Notably, it confirms the continuation at depth of the swarm of stacked spodumene-bearing pegmatites at Medcalf over 650m down-dip and 700m of strike. This mineralisation remains open at depth and along strike.
“Our maiden diamond drill programme at our Lake Johnston Lithium Project was very successful,” CHR managing director Aidan Platel said.
“The holes all intersected significant widths of spodumene-bearing pegmatites which consistently returned high-grade lithium results
“The drilling confirmed that the high grade spodumene mineralisation previously intersected at Medcalf does continue at depth, and the mineralisation remains open at depth and along strike. The diamond drilling has been an excellent start to our planned 2024 exploration programs.
“Our team is progressing the approvals process as our focus now turns to upcoming RC drill programs designed to test high-priority targets such as the extensions to Medcalf and the Mt Gordon Prospect.”
Environmental and Aboriginal heritage surveys have also been completed over the greater Medcalf and Mt Gordon prospect areas.
This paves the way for the upcoming RC drill programs.
