• Pioneer appoints highly experienced geologist Richard Nash as general manager of exploration
  • Nash previous held roles in exploration and business development at copper producer Sandfire Resources
  • Pioneer has begun field work at its Root Lake project in Canada

Newly listed Pioneer Lithium isn’t wasting any time in its hunt for deposits in Ontario and Quebec, appointing former Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR) executive Richard Nash as general manager of exploration.

The Canadian explorer has already begun mapping and sampling work at Root Lake, directly between Green Technology Metals’ (ASX:GT1) Root Bay, Morrison/McCombe, and La Grande lithium deposits in Ontario.

They’re also building an executive team with impressive resumes, recently naming CEO Clinton Booth, whose previous roles include senior positions at Fortescue Future Industries and Galaxy Resources (now Allkem (ASX:AKE).

Incoming exploration manager Nash has a similar wealth of experience in exploration and business development at Sandfire, where he was responsible for greenfields project generation and due diligence activities during a period of growth that saw the company transition to a multi-operation global miner and one of the largest copper-focused producers on the ASX.

Experience to drive exploration

Notably, Nash was responsible for the management of exploration activities at the world-class DeGrussa copper-gold project in WA.

He was also part of the team that discovered the satellite Monty copper-gold VMS deposit and oversaw the subsequent resource definition programs and technical feasibility studies for that project.

I am absolutely delighted to welcome Richard to the team,” Pioneer Lithium (ASX:PLN) CEO Clinton Booth said.

“He brings a wealth of practical exploration experience which will be invaluable as we progress exploration programs across our asset base.

“Richard brings the experience and commercial expertise required to assist the company to position ourselves for growth.

Nash also has experience as a mining analyst in London with Ocean Equities, a boutique firm focused on providing investment banking and financial advisory services to the mining sector.

Looking for pegmatites along strike from GT1

PLN’s autumn fieldwork program is underway, designed to identify the presence of pegmatite outcrops within two highly prospective corridors along-strike from the known lithium deposits held by GT1.

The explorer also hopes to identify new priority targets with the program to be conducted in two phases.

The first phase will include detailed geological mapping of outcrops and systematic bedrock sampling guided by aeromagnetic and historical exploration data.

This will be followed by a second phase of targeted litho-geochemical channel sampling to test the dispersion of lithium-bearing pathfinder minerals associated with LCT pegmatites.

Results from the autumn fieldwork will be used to enhance the geological understanding of the Root Lake project area and assist with the development of high-confidence drill targets ahead of the upcoming maiden winter drilling program.
