Special report: Castillo Copper has already proven its Cangai copper mine in New South Wales is high-grade and it is now much closer to finding out its potential size.

The company (ASX:CCZ) has completed down-hole electromagnetic (DHEM) surveys aimed at detecting accumulations of massive sulphide mineralisation at depth at the Volkhardts lode.

DHEM surveys measure conductivity and resistivity by transmitting an electric field into the rocks, which is converted to a magnetic field if the rocks are conductive.

This helps explorers uncover strong conductors or massive sulphide ore bodies located some distance away from the drill hole.

The ultimate goal for Castillo is to identify conductors associated with massive sulphide mineralisation and the primary source of the mineralisation at Cangai.

“Our geology and drilling teams have done a tremendous job uncovering significant intersections of high-grade shallow massive sulphide mineralisation at Cangai,” chairman Peter Meagher said.

“The next task is to demonstrate the project is scalable, which is where the importance of utilising DHEM surveys comes into play.

“This technology can identify accumulations of massive sulphides at depth and ultimately the primary source.

“Given the evidence drilling has unearthed to date, we are optimistic that DHEM surveys will
uncover significant conductors which can be diamond drilled to further enhance our understanding of the orebody at Cangai.”
The first five drill holes at Cangai have delivered high grades of up to 10.25 per cent copper, 6.04 per cent zinc, 32.5 grams per tonne (g/t) silver and 1.37g/t gold.

Castillo says the results clearly confirm the high-grade polymetallic mineralised system apparent at Cangai.
For the current, fully-funded campaign, the DHEM survey team are following the reverse circulation drilling crew along the line of lode, with work at Volkhardts lode now concluded.

Weather permitting, the next stop will be Mark’s then finishing up at McDonoughs lode in due course.
