Bubalus Resources targets high-grade gold structures at Wilson’s Hill

  • Bubalus Resources identifies high-grade gold targets at the Wilson’s Hill project in Victoria
  • Project interpreted to have potential for repeating, high-grade gold structures at depth
  • Planning underway for new geochemical sampling, modern geophysics and drilling

Special Report: Bubalus Resources is filling a binder with prospective gold targets at the Wilson’s Hill project in the heart of the Victorian goldfields region after completing a review.

Wilson’s Hill sits in one of Australia’s most productive gold belts and has historical, high-grade production from shallow workings that stretch out across 1km of strike and were mostly to depths of ~50m.

It also displays regularly spaced folding and faulting analogous to Victoria’s famed Bendigo Goldfield.

This supports the potential for repeating high-grade reef structures at depth, a finding that Bubalus Resources (ASX:BUS) will no doubt follow up on given that previous diamond drilling by Western Mining Corporation had identified a new saddle-reef style horizon at a depth of ~250m after returning assays of up to 8m grading 23.83g/t gold.

WMC’s work also generated a shallow (~50m depth), bulk-tonnage zone striking ~350m along Wilsons Reef that contains multiple quartz vein sets in parallel and tension vein arrays with widths of about 3-6m.

Wilson’s Hill is also close to Falcon Metals’ (ASX:FAL) Blue Moon project, which shares comparable Ordovician sedimentary sequences subjected to intense folding and faulting, evidence for saddle reef and fault reef mineralisation, and potential for large-scale, high-grade gold discoveries at depth.

The project within Exploration Licence EL007359, encompasses the historical Wilsons Hill Goldfield and is contained within the suite of tenements the company has under option from Syndicate Minerals.

Next steps

Analysis undertaken by GBM Gold (ASX:GBM) from 2010-13 using WMC’s drill core had identified repeat mineralisation consistent with Bendigo-style folding frequency and confirmed the potential for multiple stacked horizons between 200-800m depth.

GBM also reported a resource under the outdated JORC 2004 code though only limited work was done to convert the exploration target of that time into resources.

However, BUS was unable to retrieve sufficient information to validate the resource estimate and exploration targets reported by GBM in 2013.

It did manage to retrieve sufficient information from historical reports relating to the drilling completed by WMC and reported to the government in the 1980s.

As such, it will now move to compile and validate where possible all historical date.

The company will also carry out stakeholder engagement to assess potential for land access for exploration.

Wilson’s Hill sits on a combination of private (freehold) land and Crown Land (including a Conservation Reserve on which historic mining infrastructure relics and shafts are located).

Low impact exploration can be carried out on the Crown Land portion of the project.

Planning is currently underway for new geochemical sampling, modern geophysics (induced polarisation) and drilling.
