A significant new nickel sulphide mineralisation has been discovered by Blackstone Minerals at its Ta Cuong prospect, part of its Ta Khoa project in Vietnam.

The new sulphide discovery called Taipan was made in the first drill hole of a previously untested zone within the Ta Cuong prospect following an electromagnetic survey.

Blackstone Minerals (ASX:BSX) plans to carry out follow-up drilling to test several proximal electromagnetic geophysics targets in the Taipan Discovery Zone.

“The discovery hole at the Taipan Discovery Zone is one of the best Blackstone Minerals has delivered on its massive sulphide vein targets,” managing director, Scott Williamson, said.

The new discovery at Ta Cuong features 39.7m of continuous disseminated sulphide, a semi-massive sulphide vein, and a massive sulphide vein of unweathered mineralisation from 15.15m.

New sulphide discovery is open along strike

“The Taipan Discovery Zone remains open along strike and significantly adds momentum to the massive sulphide vein strategy at Ta Khoa,” said Williamson.

Sulphide mineralisation was intersected at 39.7m included disseminated sulphide, and was preceded by 9.27m of weakly weathered sulphide mineralisation totalling 49m from 5.88m.

The company said that Ta Cuong and the Taipan Discovery Zone has the potential to add significantly to its massive sulphide mining inventory.

The large inventory strengthens Blackstone Minerals’ investment decision for restarting an existing 450,000 tonnes per year capacity concentrator at the Ta Cuong site.

Further project updates expected

Blackstone Minerals said it expects to provide updates in the coming weeks on several aspects of its Vietnam nickel projects.

This includes ongoing drilling at Ta Cuong, as well as anticipated assay results for its King Snake deposit, and results from infill drilling for its Ban Chang and Ban Phuc disseminated sulphide prospects.

“So far all three priority massive sulphide vein targets have delivered impressive and high value intersections,” said Williamson.

“We are excited to be systematically unveiling the potential of the Ta Khoa nickel-copper-platinum group elements district and will continue an aggressive exploration program, representing the most cost-effective and value accretive pathway to secure supply for our downstream business,” he added.
