Belararox ramps up copper quest at Kareng West

  • Belararox begins drilling at Kareng West
  • The first hole at Target 1 has wrapped up, with pXRF screening underway
  • The campaign is testing four of six defined targets along strike of Cobre’s Kitlanya West and Ngami copper assets

Special report: There’s plenty of action in Botswana’s copper belt where Belararox is making progress on its first drilling campaign at the Kalahari copper project.

The maiden hole at Kareng West is done and dusted, with pXRF readings identifying promising zones of interest that are now off to ALS for assay.

To accelerate drilling, an additional rig has been mobilised, bringing the total number on site to two RC and one diamond.

Drilling is targeting the copper-rich D’Kar–Ngwako Pan contact zone, the same horizon that hosts every major deposit in the belt, putting Belararox (ASX:BRX) in prime exploration territory alongside Cobre (ASX:CBE) and JV partner BHP.

The program is off to a strong start with the first hole at Target 1 complete.

Belararox hit the key contact zone sooner than expected, between 150 and 200 metres, a promising sign in this copper-rich belt.

Three more RC holes have been drilled above the contact zone, paving the way for diamond drilling to take those holes another 25 to 50m deeper.

Growing confidence in a copper find

BRX technical advisor Dr Quinton Hills said it was pleasing that the DKF-NPF contact was intersected at shallower depths than modelled at Target 1 and in the first drill hole.

“Intersecting the DKF-NPF contact at this first target suggests the geophysics driven exploration model being tested is predicting the presence of this highly prospective sedimentary contact well, which gives the technical team further confidence that exploration will discover copper mineralisation in this area,” he said.

With additional rigs and resources provided by drill contractor Discovery Drilling, Belararox believes the program is on track to be completed by early November.
