Anova Metals has kicked off its 2022 soil sampling program at its 100%-owned Big Springs Gold Project in Nevada, USA.

The company says the key objective of the soil program is to better define surface expressions of gold mineralisation at Golden Dome, in the southern end of Big Springs, and aims to have the program wrapped by mid-September.

To that end, Anova Metals (ASX:AWV) has decided on a program consisting of approximately 2,800 samples collected on a 50m x 100m spacing.

According to Anova, Golden is one of the most sparsely explored areas across the Big Springs property, but also one of the most geologically interesting, given its proximity to the already-producing Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine.

Additionally, the company will have geologic mapping and rock-chip sampling in the same area, to provide an additional interpretive framework for the results, with full assay results expected mid-November.

Soil sampling program

The outcome of the soil sampling program will build on existing knowledge of the possibilities at Golden Dome, where lower plate rocks have been previously mapped at surface.

Limited historic drilling has also been done at Golden Dome, returning results including an intercept of 6.1m @ 2.79g/t Au, supported by previous soil sampling.

Multiple northwest oriented high angle faults also transect the target area, with economic gold mineralisation occurring particularly at the intersections with northeast oriented faults.

Previous soil sampling within that area revealed envelopes of gold mineralisation greater than 20 ppb, and the alignment of these gold patterns suggests structural control of mineralisation.

The sample data from the current program, in conjunction with compiled geologic mapping, will be used to establish drill and trench targets for 2023.
