Multiple thick, high-grade polymetallic intersections up to 1.86% copper, 8.68% zinc, 1.91% lead, 56.10 g/t silver and 0.12 g/t gold (over 21m) has been returned from a phase-1 drilling program at C1.

Other drilling highlights include 8.9m at 0.92% copper and 8.75% zinc, 2.28% lead, 52.10g/t silver and 0.04g/t gold from 64m, as well as 2.28m at 1.17% copper, 15.30% zinc, 4.01% lead, 82.16g/t silver and 0.06g/t gold from 64m.

Alvo Minerals (ASX:ALV) says mineralisation to date has encountered significantly elevated levels of zinc, lead and silver compared to the existing JORC resource at C1, which sits at 1.80Mt at 0.8% copper, 3.2% zinc, 0.8% lead and 15g/t silver.

Interestingly, hole PD1-030 returned 8.9m at 0.92% copper and 8.75% zinc, 2.28% lead, 52.10g/t silver and 0.04g/t gold from 64m, demonstrating multiple high-grade intervals of massive and disseminated mineralisation that ‘bulks out’.

Potential to add ‘tonnage’ to the project

ALV managing director Rob Smakman said these first set of assays confirm the historical work of the Brazilian Geological Survey (CPRM) while the company’s preliminary geological interpretation has the polymetallic mineralisation concentrated in a shallow, flat-lying and high-grade zone.

“Significant zones of disseminated mineralisation as seen in hole PD1-030, have the potential to add significant tonnage to the project,” he said.

“We took the opportunity to run an IP line over the high priority Macaw prospect and the chargeability high was coincident with the VTEM anomaly – increasing our confidence that this will be our first discovery.”

An induced polarisation survey at C1 has also been completed in collaboration with the University of Brasilia, which clearly showed the disseminated mineralisation drilled in PD1-030, highlighting that IP will be a valuable tool for targeting mineralisation going forward.

Next steps

The Phase 1 diamond drilling program is ongoing at C1 with six holes remaining, two of which are underway.

Phase 2 drilling at C3 will commence following the completion of geophysical surveys including FLEM and Downhole Electromagnetic Surveys (DHEM) that are underway.

Diamond drilling or reverse circulation drilling at Macaw is subject to results of the FLEM survey in coming weeks.

Other activities include:

  • Phase 2 diamond drilling to begin at C3 targeting extensional targets defined by the FLEM and DHEM surveys
  • Detailed ground gravity survey for C1 and C3 booked and expected to be undertaken in coming weeks
  • IP survey contractors being sought in country; and
  • Metallurgical sampling for C3 complete, samples on route to Australia.
