Albion Resources confirms high-grade gold structure at Barwidgee

  • Barwidgee drilling confirms high-grade structure with 13m at 6.3g/t gold including 5m at 12.6g/t
  • Broad gold zones at May Queen improve structural understanding across 4km corridor
  • Albion’s November drilling to target Duck and Duckling with previous hits up to 4m at 7.5g/t

 

Special Report: Final assays from maiden drilling at Albion Resources’ Yandal West gold project in WA have confirmed that a high-grade, west-dipping structure is present at the Barwidgee prospect.

Two scissor holes at Barwidgee returned 13m grading 6.3g/t gold from a down-hole depth of 37m including 5m at 12.6g/t in ALBRC055 drilled east to cross cut the structure, and 1m at 4.6g/t Au from 62m in hole ALBRC054 drilled parallel to the main structure and intersecting a possible new eastern zone.

Albion Resources (ASX:ALB) said the results extended high-grade mineralisation 15m south of previous hole 23YWRC023 that returned 4m at 9g/t.

They also indicated that mineralisation at Barwidgee coincided with the edge of a subtle chargeability anomaly extending up to 1km and remained open to the north and south and at depth.

Barwidgee is just 10km southwest of Yandal Resources’ (ASX:YRL) recent Arrakis discovery where drilling returned a standout result of 50m at 1.3g/t Au.

Meanwhile, infill hole ALBRC057 at May Queen South intersected broad gold zones within the felsic intrusive such as 2m at 0.7g/t Au from surface, 7m at 0.4g/t from 15m and 29m at 0.2g/t from 24m.

This is interpreted as a gold halo adjacent to a steep west-dipping high-grade structure, improving structural understanding across the 4km by 1km May Queen corridor.

Further gold mineralisation was also confirmed at depth to the east at Collavilla and also at Collavilla East.

“These latest results are an exciting step forward for Albion,” chief executive officer Peter Goh said.

“The scissor drilling at Barwidgee has confirmed the presence of a high-grade, west-dipping gold structure that remains open along strike and at depth, while at May Queen we now have a much clearer understanding of the controls on mineralisation across a 4km by 1km corridor.

“Together with the encouraging intersections at Collavilla and Collavilla East, and our broader exploration programs at Collavilla North and the Ives Granite, we are building a strong pipeline of targets.

“The combination of high-grade results, improved structural insights, and new geophysical datasets provides a solid foundation for our next phase of drilling to unlock further value across the Yandal West Project.”

Yandal West drilling

The 57-hole maiden RC drilling program totalling 4521m tested multiple prospects across the Yandal West project within the highly prospective Yandal Greenstone Belt.

At the Barwidgee prospect, the two scissor holes were drilled to test the true orientation of the gold-bearing structure at depth to guide future drilling along strike and depth.

They returned results that provide evidence of a west-dipping high-grade structure that is best targeted with holes drilling to the east.

The high-grade mineralisation appears coincident with the eastern edge of a subtle chargeability anomaly which has defined an extensive “IP Target Edge” that forms a classic “sigmoidal” target zone.

ALB added the correlation between IP chargeability highs and gold mineralisation reinforced the prospectivity of other untested IP targets along the Barwidgee Fault.

Over at May Queen, the mineralisation intersected by ALBRC057 is interpreted to intersect a broad halo of gold that occurs on the western edge of a steep west-dipping higher-grade structure which remains open at depth.

Mineralisation is now known to be hosted within a sheared felsic intrusive “sandwiched” between mafic greenstones.

As a result, gravity may be utilised as a highly effective technique to map less dense felsic intrusive within denser greenstones.

This result indicates that historical holes may well have drilled sub-parallel to other west-dipping structures and therefore many structures may not have been tested.

Drilling also found that follow-up exploration is warranted at Collavilla and Collavilla East.

Next steps

ALB is processing data from a gravity survey at May Queen, which was carried out to map highly prospective intrusions and structures that crosscut the primarily mafic lithologies of the area.

It has also completed planning a gradient array induced polarisation survey over the central portion of May Queen where all significant previous intersections are located.

This is aimed at mapping accumulations of disseminated sulphide in the area to assist and guide future drilling efforts.

Results are also pending from soil sampling completed to extend the soil coverage to the northern area of Ives Find where gravity anomalies have been previously highlighted to define further drill targets.

The company is collecting a widespread suite of granite samples across the Ives Granite in order to do a full suite of metal assays and conduct fertility analysis to vector into the most highly prospective areas of the 4.5km long intrusive.

It follows recent multi-element analysis which has highlighted the area to be possibly intrusive-related in nature.

Last but not least, planning is underway for a third phase of drilling due to start in November 2025 pending heritage surveys.

This will include the Duck and Duckling prospects 800m south of Collavilla where previous drilling returned significant shallow previous intersections of up to 4m at 7.5g/t.
