What a week it’s been! And yet no sport to look forward to this weekend, with AFL finals still a week away due to that pesky pre-finals bye.

After sharp falls on Monday, both the ASX 200 and the ASX Small Ords recovered and will close higher than last week (barring any disasters in the next hour or so).

ASX SMALL CAP WINNERS:

If you were dabbling in Western Australian gas, it’s likely you were a winner this week.

Key Petroleum (ASX:KEY) +133%

Warrego Energy (ASX:WGO) +108%

Strike Energy (ASX:STX) +86%

Warrego and Strike hit a gross gas column even thicker than the game-changing Waitsia field in WA. Warrego told its investors that the West Erregulla-2 joint venture has hit 41m of net pay in a gross column of 97m from the Kingia Sandstone — raising hopes that this well could exceed Waitsia-4. Strike is an equal joint venture partner in the project.

What’s more, porosity came in at up to a whopping 19 per cent — meaning that it shouldn’t take too much to crack the formation open. For those of you playing at home, Waitsia-4, drilled by AWE, flowed at 90 million cubic feet per day during flow testing — before the company was sold to Japanese giant Mitsui for $600 million.

Key Petroleum today updated the market saying it had mapped a number of Waitsia-style leads in a similar structural setting to that of Waitsia. Key also believes that the low side closure directly under Mount Horner has significant potential to deliver similar results to the discoveries immediately on trend.

Total Brain (ASX:TTB) +75%

Elsewhere, mental health tech stock Total Brain will see its technology integrated by IBM, which sent its shares flying.

Total Brain will be embedded in IBM’s THRIVE360° of Mental Fitness platform as a core functionality. The platform powers GRIT (Get Results in Transition) to address individual and social determinants of health and well-being, and is being used by the US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to help veterans, active-duty service members, and reservists understand and strengthen their mental fitness, social connections, and overall well-being.

ASX SMALL CAP LOSERS:

Speedcast (ASX:SDA) -56%

A gigantic half-year loss of $261 million meant Speedcast had the worst week among small caps on the ASX. While revenue grew 17 per cent to $533 million, it reported a big loss, with around a $230 million negative impact from the impairment of goodwill relating to the performance of the non-government operating segment.

RPM Automotive (ASX:RPM) -34%

RPM Automotive listed on the ASX through the backdoor, via the shell of Kairiki Energy, which was suspended in May 2016. It was not the best of debut weeks.

AJ Lucas (ASX:AJL) -33%

After a brilliant week last week, AJ Lucas, a British gas explorer that co-owns a well with a local explorer,  tumbled back to earth.
