It is not quite beer on tap but residents of a housing development in the Indian state of Kerala turned on their water taps to find alcohol mixed in with the water.

Before you go testing your own taps for this phenomenon, it turns out that regulators had disposed of illegal alcohol seized six years ago by pouring it into a pit.

The alcohol slowly seeped into the well supplying the development, which resulted in the (un)happy state of affairs.

The ASX has largely recovered from the big fall it suffered early in the week, so it might be a good time to head down to the pub after seeing who were some of the small cap movers.

Here are this week’s ASX Small Cap Winners & Losers:

ASX SMALL CAP WINNERS

Elixir Energy (ASX:EXR) +105%

It turns out that intersecting a thick coal seam that appears to have potential for high gas content is really good news for a coal seam gas company.

All joking aside, the market clearly liked Elixir intersecting 82m of net coal in its very first exploration well at the Nomgon IX coalbed methane production sharing contract in Mongolia.

With the thickest coal seam measuring 52m and the visible coal quality promising to be encouraging for gas content and permeability — both important considerations for successful coal seam gas wells — it is not hard to see why either.

De Grey Mining (ASX:DEG) +98%

Excitement is clearly building around De Grey Mining’s Hemi prospect near Port Hedland after drilling intersected thick, high-grade gold mineralisation on two sections 640m apart.

Drilling at Section A intersected the highest grade to date of 24m at 7.5 grams per tonne (g/t) and finished within the gold zone, while Section B returned a 24m hit grading 4.2g/t from 36m.

The company interprets the two sections as being structurally related though more drilling will be required to test this theory.

Betmakers Technology (ASX:BET) +95%

Conveniently rounding out our top three small cap gainers is Betmakers, which secured an exclusive licence to distribute and manage fixed odds betting in New Jersey, US.

Under the deal with the Monmouth Park race track, which hosts the famous Haskell Invitational stakes, Betmakers will distribute racing odds throughout the US and international markets where fixed odds betting is allowed.

Additionally, it will launch a global racing network in New Jersey which will provide a uniformed set of standard conditions for both racing bodies and bookmakers to allow clarity of reporting and distribution of data and content.

ASX SMALL CAP LOSERS

Sensera (ASX:SE1) -57%

Where there are gainers, there are losers and Sensera takes bottom spot this week after bravely admitting in an update that it had suffered the loss or deferral of several expected orders.

It added that while it had attempted to restructure its cost base, it was unable to do so fast enough to avoid going to the market for capital.

Sensera is currently seeking $3.5m through an underwritten notes issue.
