Weekly ASX small cap wrap: Who’s been readying the turkeys this week?
News
News
Next week, 210 million turkeys will be consumed for Thanksgiving. And they will be the cheapest they’ve been in nine years.
The 34th American Farm Bureau Federation survey found the average cost of a 16 pound turkey is $US20.80 ($30.65)- down 91c from last year.
This is because the costs of raising turkeys are going down due to improvements in genetics and farming conditions.
MetalsTech (ASX:MTC) +371%
It’s been a tough 2019 for lithium explorers and MetalsTech, which owns a project in Canada, has been no exception.
But this week it announced it was on course to buy a gold project in Slovakia. It entered into an option agreement in which it has 45 days to complete due diligence on the project then buy if it they want to.
And it’s not just any mine, it’s a place where gold has been mined since the 8th century. It has produced over 1.5 million ounces of gold and 6.7 million ounces of silver.
On Thursday it rocketed up 500 per cent. This was the biggest one day gain for an ASX stock in 2019 – surpassing Actinogen (ASX:ACW) the previous record holder. While it has retreated from its all time highs it still sits a healthy 371 per cent up this week.
Prescient Therapeutics (ASX:PTX) +68%
Prescient shareholders finished last week with good news about the clinical trial for its anti-cancer drug. The first patient had been dosed in the study, led by Professor Miles Prince.
This week it announced it was collaborating with private company Carina Biotech to develop new cell therapies. Carina’s approach is to utilise a cancer patient’s own immune system to target and attack cancer.
Wiseway Group (ASX:WWG) +38%
It’s hard work to be accredited to export Australian fruit to China. But this week, Wiseway shareholders learnt that the hard work had paid off.
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources officially accredited its fumigation and treatment facilities. It also signed a business partner, China Marketing Solutions to help with exporting.

Prospa (ASX:PGL) -46%
It wasn’t a happy Monday for shareholders of small business lender Prospa. It cut its revenue and earnings forecasts by $13m and $7.3m respectively.
CEO Greg Moshal called this a short term impact and said things were fine in the long term. But the market sent Prospa down 46 per cent this week.
