Weekly ASX small cap wrap: Who slid on a banana peel this week?
News
News
Here are this week’s small cap winners and losers. With GIFs.
Banana frond textile maker Papyrus (ASX:PPY) gained a new strategic investor this week and the share price went … well, you know.
The investor is Sydney based UP Equities, an established hemp producer wanting to use the Papyrus technology to process “its residual agricultural fibre”.
UP will subscribe for up to 19.9 per cent of Papyrus at a price of 1c per share. The first payment of $60,000 has already been received; the balance is due within 45 days.
The ASX’s only electric two-wheeler manufacturer has continued its strong 2019 run, with its shares up 62 per cent this week following the launch of two new vehicles.
The company is looking to capture a slice of the global electric two-wheeler market, which some estimates have put at a value of $40 billion by 2027.
Here’s a weird one.
HeraMED, the medtech platform which makes pregnancy-monitoring devices, has traded between 15c and 17c in recent months.
But from a base of 14.5c on Thursday, it rocketed higher in morning trade to close at 21.5c — an intraday gain of almost 50 per cent.
The reason? Probably an article describing the company as a “$13 billion capped Aussie junior”, which $18.8m market cap HeraMED described as “manifestly incorrect”.
Nice result though.
Beam said this week that Telstra has approved its 4G gateway device — paving the way for much wider adoption as the massive telco moves to phase out its 3G network by 2024.
Some very exciting news for Beam shareholders and the other 0.12 per cent of investors that know what a “4G Internet of things (IoT) gateway device” is.

Baby coal producer Bounty (ASX:BCY) says an October rock fall that stopped production at Cook Colliery will adversely affect “the company’s financial position”.
While there were no personal injuries and only minor damage to equipment, there was a 23,000 tonne production loss in October as a direct result of the falls.
But there’s more – the company estimates a 150,000t production loss for FY20, as well as the loss of about 135,000t of reserves as a result of “necessary changes to mining operations”.
