Weekly ASX small cap wrap: who left everyone else behind
News
HIV drug developer Biotron (ASX:BIT) continued its big adventure after last week announcing positive results for its most recent drug trial.
Biotron has for years been developing a small-molecule therapy, BIT225, to treat viral infections including HIV-1 and hepatitis C. HIV-1 is the most common and infectious variety of HIV.
Biotron boss Dr Michelle Miller said the test results were “a major step to the ultimate goal of curing HIV-1 infection”.
Dr Miller later revealed to Stockhead she was now looking for a funding partner to progress to the next phase of testing — raising the prospect that Biotron could be the next ASX biotech takeover target.
The stock soared 750 per cent in the space of six days — from 1.9c on Sep 27 to 16c on Wednesday.
Profit-takers pushed the price back to 8.1c by the end of the week.
Myfiziq (ASX:MYQ) went on a run after announcing UFC fighter Conor McGregor would join his former opponent Floyd Mayweather in licensing the body measurement app’s technology for their own apps.
The Perth-based tech play bounced 47 per cent to 39c after McGregor agreed to integrate MyFiziq’s tech into McGregorFAST, an app that brings his training, nutrition and fighting techniques to millions of fans and UFC enthusiasts.
The deal comes via a strategic partnership with digital fitness solutions company FitLab – MyFiziq’s third strategic partnership in North America to date.
Floyd Mayweather — who last year fought McGregor in “The Biggest Fight in Combat Sports History” — has previously agreed to adopt MyFiziq’s technology.
Cauldron Energy’s (ASX:CXU) 15-month search for a non-uranium project came to an end — and its stock rose 43 per cent to 4c this week.
Cauldron bought two lithium projects in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
When the WA state government implemented a ban on most new uranium mines in 2017, Cauldron stopped work at its flagship Yanrey uranium project and began searching for advanced exploration plays in other commodities, mostly in Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
But they found something far closer to home, entering into an agreement to buy lithium projects from private explorer Mercury Resources Group.
Horizon Gold (ASX:HRN) gained 57 per cent to 22c for the week after announcing a “significant zinc and copper intersection” at its Gum Creek project 640km north of Perth.
The best numbers at one prospect included 9m at 6.69% zinc and 1% copper — the “most significant zinc drill result achieved” so far.
Chairman Peter Harold said: “We are looking forward to commencing follow-up drilling programs as soon as possible to more fully delineate the extent of these priority zinc-copper and gold targets.”
High-tech concrete maker Eden Innovations (ASX:EDE) soared 65 per cent to 7.1c — attracting a speeding ticket from the ASX.
But Eden said there was nothing going on other than a couple of deals it announced last month.

Bionomics (ASX:BNO) went into free fall after announcing a trial of its Post Traumatic Stress Disorder drug failed to reduce symptoms after 12 weeks.
The stock has tanked by two-thirds in the opening minutes of trade on Tuesday morning — and finished the week down 62 per cent at 19c.
The phase two trial assessed PTSD symptoms in 193 patients across 25 sites in the US and Australia after they’d been treated with BNC210, a new drug that inhibited a neural receptor implicated in long term memory.
“We are extremely disappointed that the primary endpoint in this trial was not met,” said Bionomics chief Dr Deborah Rathjen.
