Weekly ASX small cap wrap: Trimming off excess weight?

This week saw a massive 35kg wool coat sheared from a wild sheep found bumbling through a Victorian state forest.

Baarack – the sheep in question – was taken by rescuers and given his first shearing in years.

While we are sure the sheep is relieved to lose so much weight, the same may not be true for punters affected by today’s big market pullback.

The All Ords fell 2.3 per cent to 6,939.40 points this morning.

ASX SMALL CAP WINNERS

Carnegie Clean Energy (ASX:CCE) +250%

While the market stumbled, the wave energy developer jumped this week.

The company announced a 14.9 per cent increase in revenue for the half year ended 31 December 2020 today.

Venturex Resources (ASX:VXR) +229%

Shares in the junior explorer exploded after the company secured a strategic funding package from highly regarded mining executive Bill Beament, the boss and founder of Northern Star.

Beament will cornerstone a big $58m funding package to advance the company’s Sulphur Springs copper-zinc project towards production.

Lefroy Exploration (ASX:LEX) +205%

Big exploration results are often accompanied by equally big movements on the market and this was certainly the case for Lefroy, which struck a 60m intersection grading 5.22 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 112m down-hole including 20m at 12.2g/t gold from 144m.

The hit lends credence to the company’s belief that the Burns gold-copper prospect could be an intrusion-related gold system like Hemi, or a porphyry system like Boddington.
