Top 10 at 11: Drug trial progress and coal success are today’s news

Good morning, and welcome to Stockhead’s Top 10 at shortly-before-11-ish, which is meant to highlight the best (and sometimes worst) performing ASX stocks in morning trade using live data, to provide a short, sharp update to help frame the trading day by showing the biggest movers in percentage terms that have made announcements.

The market opens at 10am (eastern time) and the data is taken at 10:15am, once every ASX stock has started trading. Here’s what’s happened so far.

Pre-market, the ASX was expected to open lower this morning, after Wall Street took a kicking overnight.

The big news there is that fast food giant McDonald’s fell heavily on reports that one person has died and 49 more hospitalised after an E. coli outbreak in the US linked to the chain’s famous Quarter Pounder burgers.

Locally, there’s still a lot of chatter about the place surrounding Wisetech Global and whether Richard White should stand aside in the wake of his infidelity scandals, with shareholders unhappy at the shockingly large fall in share price it’s caused.

When the market opened, MAterials and InfoTech led the sell-off, sending the ASX 200 benchmark down 0.35% in the opening minutes of the session.
