Good morning everyone and welcome to Rise and Shine on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Here’s what you should know before the ASX opens today…
The ASX200 is expected to open on Tuesday with a bit of a bounce, with futures pointing up by 0.45% at 7AM AEST.
It’s a good start, considering the US was closed for Memorial Day and the UK took the day off for Spring Bank holiday.
What happened in Europe last night?
Over in Europe, the benchmark Stoxx 50 climbed 1.30%, Germany’s DAX rallied 1.7%, and the French CAC rose 1.2%.
STOCK INDICES | Value | Change |
ASX 200 (previous day) | 8,361 | 0.00% |
S&P 500 (closed) | 5,803 | 0.00% |
Dow Jones (closed) | 41,603 | 0.00% |

Even the battered European autos sector managed a comeback, jumping 1.7% after getting smacked last week by tariff threats.
The rebound came after Trump, who spent Friday threatening a 50% tariff wall on EU goods, decided to delay his big swing to July 9.
A friendly phone call with EU boss Ursula von der Leyen did the trick, for now.
Europe said it was ready to “fast track” trade talks, and markets are lapping it up.
Futures contracts for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 are also trading nearly 1% higher on the news, giving local traders something to chew on today.
Risk-on vibes for equities.
Iron ore finds a pulse, oil shrugs, gold chills
Iron ore has been holding its breath lately, and last night it fell by another 1.2%.
Prices have stayed in a narrow US$95–105 range, tugged between weak Chinese construction demand and glimmers of hope from US-China trade chat.
Oil, on the other hand, barely moved. It’s waiting on word from the next OPEC+ meeting on June 1st where producers may decide to crank up the taps. Brent’s still below US$65.
And gold eased as investors ditched the safe stuff for a riskier flavour, thanks to Trump’s EU tariff delay.
And finally…
Locally, the calendar’s pretty bare.
ALS (ASX:ALQ), a global testing, inspection, and certification company is reporting earnings, which might bring a few sparks.
Challenger (ASX:CGF) is hosting Investor Day, one to watch if you’re into wealth management plays.
It’s a light-data day, so any surprise from company updates or offshore economic prints might carry a bit more weight than usual.
