Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s wandering through the fire today?
News
News
Emergency services are being stretched as fires continue to rage in NSW.
Crews are currently conducting strategic back-burns where they can, while in Sydney hardware stores have been selling out of dust masks as people seek respite from a thick layer of smoke blanketing the city.
At last count there’s still 90 fires burning across the state, around 40 of which are uncontained.
But before we get too gloomy on a Friday, some heartwarming tales have emerged from the flames — including that of Wilbur, the one-foot tall sausage dog who firefighters found wandering alone on Wednesday.
The Dachshund was frightened and alone but otherwise healthy as he wandered through the fires, and crews took him in before returning him to his owner yesterday.
While the fires have wreaked havoc on plenty of native wildlife, Wilbur joins a list of lucky animals — including koalas and other family pets — who have managed to survive unscathed.
Local stocks are also surviving, as the market edged higher following a rough week where it slumped by almost 4 per cent across Tuesday and Wednesday.
The ASX200 was up 0.24 per cent in morning trade at 6,699 points, while the Small Ords edged higher by 0.08 per cent to 2,871.60 points.
ASX debutante Amaero International (ASX:3DA) led the pack today, jumping by more than 100 per cent after listing this morning.
The company raised $8m in an over-subscribed IPO at 20c, and was trading at 43c into the midday break.
3DA is the latest competitor in the 3D additive manufacturing space to tap public markets for capital, as it looks to execute on projects with a global client base including Boeing and Raytheon.
Energy company Tap Oil Limited (ASX:TAP) also rose strongly, after announcing board approval for a maiden dividend payment of 2.5c per share.
And online advertising platform engage:BDR (ASX:EN1) jumped out of the gate and held its gains into midday trade after a strong trading update, where it highlighted record monthly revenue in November of $2.4m.

Medical device company GI Dynamics (ASX:GID), which is developing the EndoBarrier treatment for type 2 diabetes, announced it had extended the funding date for a convertible note it had issued to Crystal Amber Fund.
The company said it expected to announce a date “either later in December 2019 or in January 2020”. However, it acknowledged risks in relation to GI Dynamics’ capacity to operate as a going concern and the likelihood of obtaining shareholder approvals for the revised date.
