Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s thankful for a Logie today?

Last night’s TV Week Logies awards were fun to watch as always. Everyone is talking about the speeches of Kerry O’Brien or Tom Gleeson. But the winner that stood out most to Stockhead was the Graham Kennedy Award for the most outstanding newcomer.
Paralympian and ABC presenter Dylan Alcott took out the honour. While he is confined to a wheelchair, he has not let his disability hold him back in his career — or his speech last night.
“There are four and a half million people, like me, with a disability so whether it’s in education, employment, going on a date, please give them an opportunity too because there’s a lot of bloody talented people out there and I promise you, they won’t disappoint,” he said.
He certainly has not. We certainly love watching him on TV. He loves his career, “because I love sharing stories but also to show that people with a disability can be talented, funny, humorous, just normal people enjoying their lives”.
Well done Dylan.
Before we leave the Logies, a word has to be said about Tom Gleeson and his campaign. While this author is an unashamed fan of Gleeson, we think this is a good last word on this subject.
Have woken up to lots of feelpinions about Tom Gleeson winning the gold Logie and all I can say is, it’s a popularity contest, not the Nobel Peace Prize. It’s all going to be OK. 🙃

While we certainly have not heard the last word on trade talks or interest rates, the most recent words have given optimism to markets. The ASX Small Ords is up by nearly half a percent, climbing 14 points to 2,848 points as of 12pm.
Medibio (ASX:MEB) climbed over 200 per cent. The medtech play signed on British food service conglomerate Compass Group to the pilot program for its corporate mental health app, ilumen. While some stocks don’t jump at all after announcing significant deals, arguably what helped is Compass also commenting to Medibio shareholders. The group safety and sustainability director argued the partnership, “demonstrates our commitment to supporting the mental wellbeing of our workforce and that of our customers.”
Phoslock Environmental Technologies (ASX:PET) jumped after announcing it was gaining traction in China following successful trials. YPB Group (ASX:YPB) is up after announcing restructuring moves had been successful and the company was beginning to generate revenue from a high profile contract.

Among today’s losers are Adacel Technologies (ASX:ADA) and Superloop (ASX:SLC), which both announced multi-million dollar profit downgrades. Adacel was hit nearly three times as bad, falling by over a third because its multi-million profit turned into nearly a multi-million dollar loss.
Regional Express (ASX:REX) fell on accusations of a poor safety culture despite the company labelling the claims as “baseless”.
