Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s ready to party today?
News
Sydney’s nightlife is set to get a shot in the arm, with the city’s controversial lockout laws to be lifted from today.
The rollback will be implemented in the Sydney CBD and Oxford St, but restrictions will remain in place at the former party hub of King’s Cross.
So from tonight onwards, patrons will be permitted to enter different venues after 1:30am. The call for last drinks has also been extended by half an hour to 3:30am.
It marks the end of a tumultuous five-year period, after lawmakers initially enacted the policy following two “king-hit” deaths in the Kings Cross area.
While crime rates dropped, many city residents bemoaned the relative lack of nightlife in Australia’s largest city. To kick things off, a few venues around town are holding celebration parties tonight.
ASX small-cap investors also had something to cheer about this morning, as the ASX Small Ords rose by 0.91 per cent to 3,020 points — crossing the 3,000 mark for the first time since the 2008 financial crisis.
The ASX200 was also in positive territory, up 0.76 per cent to 6,956 points.
Junior explorer Castillo Copper (ASX:CCZ) held its gains into midday trade after a positive update at its Queensland copper operation. The gains followed a review of historic data at Castillo’s projects within the Mt Oxide pillar of the Mt Isa copper belt.
The company called the results from the review a “game changing development that materially enhances the exploration upside”.

Retail group Mosaic Brands (ASX:MOZ) fell sharply following a negative trading update, where it said comparable sales results fell sharply for the second half of November and December.
Mosaic said sales were “significantly impacted” by the horrific bushfire season that had destroyed almost 2,000 homes and claimed 17 lives across Australia.
