Perhaps we’re only celebrating this because they beat New Zealand but… it was a spectacular final and England are the world champions of something.

The final went to a “Super Over” and even at the end it was still tied on the scoreboard but England won having scored more boundaries.

This was the winning moment:

That’s enough on them. Until of course, Australia bounces back at the Ashes.

The ASX Small Ords is down 0.5 per cent today to 2,893 while the ASX 200 is down 0.73 per cent to 6,648. Clearly mourning that Australia didn’t make it.

There has not been a catalyst for today’s decline, after much of the economic data went out last week. Tomorrow we’ll see the release of the RBA’s board meeting minutes which will give the market a broader shape of the state of our economy.

Unemployment figures are out on Thursday and this week in the US many of the big listed companies are releasing their earnings. This will likely influence leads we get from Wall Street for the rest of the week.

Some ASX companies have released quarterlies, although most come a day or two before the deadline, the last day of the month. Full financial year results won’t come until August.

Going up

Iron ore explorer Strike Resources (ASX: SRK) jumped over 60 per cent after its maiden JORC inferred mineral resource was released, showing 9.1 million tonnes at 63.4 per cent.

Adherium (ASX: ADR) gained 19 per cent after announcing it had the all-clear to enter the US market.

HomeStay Care (ASX: HSC) rose 33 per cent after a distribution agreement for its technology. Distribution agreements aren’t always market moving news but perhaps the catalyst was a ringing endorsement from the distributor’s CEO.
