Here’s a question: what do English cricket legend Sir Alastair Cook and Prince Andrew (allegedly) have in common?

As it turns out, they both suffered — or have suffered at one point — from anhidrosis.

It’s a rare and often misunderstood condition that inflicts on the sufferer an inability to sweat properly.

Symptoms include cramps, nausea and an elevated heartbeat. And also — given that sweating is the body’s mechanism to cool itself — an uncomfortable sensation of overheating.

Cook, the former English captain, may have constantly looked cool under pressure facing the fastest bowlers in the world. But in fact, he was dealing with a mild version of the disease while he plundered 12,472 test runs.

And according to the Duke of York, he also suffered from the condition (at least temporarily) — which he attributed to his response to heightened adrenaline during the Falklands War in a troubling interview with the BBC over the weekend.

Turning to stocks, and a few listed companies were feeling the pressure this morning as the ASX200 fell by more than 0.5 per cent into midday trade. The Small Ords fared slightly worse, down by around 0.7 per cent.

Going up

Medtech company HeramMED (ASX:HMD) rose strongly for the second straight day, after some positive news out of the US. The company said its HeraBEAT pregnancy monitoring solution has been approved by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

As evidence that the market views accreditation from US regulators as a relatively difficult thing to achieve, shares in HMD rose by more than 25 per cent and held their gains into midday trade.
