By now you’ve probably heard of the banana duct-taped to a wall at the Art Basel event in Miami Beach.
And you’ve almost definitely heard that it was acquired — by an anonymous french woman — for the princely sum of $US120,000 (that is one expensive musa).
The work of art(?) was created Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, who’s apparently renowned for creations that toe the line between legitimacy and, shall we say, taking the p*ss.
The saga took another definitive turn over the weekend when a patron at Art Basel, David Datuna, walked up to the six-figure ‘nana, ripped the duct tape off the wall and promptly commenced eating it.
For his efforts, Datuna was asked to leave the venue — although he wasn’t charged or arrested for anything (the banana was subsequently replaced).
Local markets were slightly less absurd this morning, as the ASX200 edged fractionally lower into midday trade to 6,726.50 points. The Small Ords index was down 0.1 per cent at 2,860.50 points.
Biotech Zoono Group (ASX:ZNO) was one of the early leaders, jumping by more than 25 per cent after announcing some positive China-related news.
The company signed an exclusive distribution agreement to sell Zoono products into the Chinese markets as part of efforts to “minimise the impacts of African swine fever within the pig population in China”.
And junior explorer Oklo Resources (ASX:OKU) also held its gains into midday trade, after a drilling update at its Seko gold project in western Mali. The company said assay results “confirm the presence of a thick, coherent zone of high-grade gold mineralisation”, including a 65m zone at 7.11 grams per tonne.

Among the usual round of resources and energy minnows which ticked lower, minerals company European Cobalt (ASX:EUC) lost ground after an operational update on its Ekedal and Ruda projects in Sweden.
The company said it entered into a binding heads of agreement to divest the two projects — a transaction which “reduces the holding costs associated with retaining non-core tenure in Sweden and has the potential of delivering further upside through future cash consideration and production royalties”, the company said.
