Cows provide us with milk and are (generally) tolerant of humans. But they’re living creatures who need to be kept happy and here’s one way to do it.

Brush-like devices such as the one shown below give cows massages. Studies have shown some cows want brushes as much as food. But it also keeps their coats clean and healthy and saves them having to resort to other surfaces such as barn walls.

One problem is they’re expensive. While that hasn’t stopped Denmark making them mandatory, only one brush per 50 animals is enough under those laws.

Here’s another cow enjoying it.

You may be thinking “if only they made them for humans”. There’s probably something out there. But for the market as a whole? Until today we would’ve said interest rates.

But today it seems the rally is over as investors await a pile of economic data this week mostly predicted to be poor. The first of this was jobs advertisements data released this morning. While it was up 4.6 per cent from May, ANZ economist David Plank said, “the jump in job ads in June represents only a partial recovery from that [May’s] weakness, suggesting that the overall trend is still downwards.”

The ASX 200 is down nearly 1 per cent and the ASX Small Ords is down 0.7 per cent (or by 20 points) to 2885 points.

Next up is business confidence on Tuesday then consumer confidence and building activity on Wednesday. On Thursday we have May’s (consumer & business) lending figures and on Friday we’ll see credit and debit card lending figures.
