Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s in the throes of capitulation today?

It’s Friday the 13th. But even the darkest, most evil imagination would struggle to conjure up horrors akin to the terrifying bloodbath currently taking place on the ASX.
It follows an eye-watering session on the S&P500, where US stocks booked their worst one-day fall since Black Monday in 1987.
The main catalysts for the re-pricing appear to be two-fold:
– Uncertainty (leaning towards inevitability) of the virus causing death rates across major western economies similar to existing hotbeds such as Italy and China; and
– What risk assets are actually worth, in the event those economies are forced to ‘shut up shop’ en masse to prevent further loss of life.
Among the latest news-flow: a flight attendant at Virgin Australia has tested positive for COVID-19, Bitcoin is getting crushed, and US lawmakers look close to announcing a joint spending agreement on support measures later tonight.
For now, all bets are off.

Turning to markets (if you can bear to look), and heading into midday trade the ASX200 had crashed by another seven per cent to 4,931.20, the lowest level since 2016. The Small Ords index was down 6.22 per cent to 2,122.

The market meltdown wasn’t enough to take the shine off a positive set of clinical trial results for the health-tech platform.
CDX announced the expansion of clinical trials with two big pharma customers — AstraZeneca and Bayer — for its XCEL devices.
The XCEL device is the “only FDA cleared device for measuring the central aortic waveform”, and is used to provide critical data during patient treatments and drug trials.
