Here are the key ASX small cap winners and losers at lunch Monday Aug 13:

The ASX Small Ords was down 10.8 points or 0.38 per cent to 2803 at 1pm AEST.

GOING UP

Lachlan Star (ASX:LSA) soared 43 per cent to 2c today after appointing well-known mining investor Klaus Eckhof as executive director.

Mr Eckhof is best known for leading popular lithium producer AVZ Minerals until he recently stepped down as chairman.

AVZ went on a run from 8c as high as 37c after a major lithium discovery in the Congo before cooling to about 10.5c.

He’s also a director of Okapi Resources (ASX:OKR).

Capilano Honey (ASX:CZZ) jumped 28 per cent to an intraday high of $19.99 after a Chinese-backed private equity fund lobbed a $20.06 per share cash offer.

The $148 million company signed a deal with Brave HoldCo, an entity owned by Wattle Hill RHC Fund 11, backed by a big China’s insurance group Sunshine Insurance Group and former Macquarie Bank private markets business unit ROC Capital.

The bid was 28 per cent higher than Capilano’s closing price on Friday, at $15.65.

The shares were trading at $19.51 by 12.15pm AEST Monday.

High Purity Alumina producer Hill End Gold (ASX:HEG) gained 48 per cent this morning on the back of an analyst report valuing the stock at 38c.

The stock rocketed from 5.8c to 8.6c before cooling to 8.3c by 12.15pm AEST.

HPA — created from aluminous clay using various chemical procedures — is used as a base material for making lithium ion battery components, LED lights, smart phone screens and surgical tools.

A report by Independent Investment Research senior analyst Mark Gordon said Hill End would benefit from growth in annual demand for HPA of 15-20 per cent over coming years.

Food Revolution Group (ASX:FOD) gained 27 per cent to an intraday high of 7.1c after signing a deal to produce juice drinks for export to China.

FOD will work with wellness e-tailer Health More “to develop a range of exciting and innovative beverage products to distribute through e-commerce channels into the Chinese market”.

Health More already works with brands such as Blackmores and A2 selling dietary supplements, milk powders, cosmetics and food to Chinese consumers.

Baraka Energy & Resources (ASX:BKP) fell 12.5 per cent to an intraday low of 0.7c after an attack by one-time fundraiser GTT Ventures succeeded in sending the board packing.

GTT Ventures had called an extraordinary meeting to try to dump Colin and Justin Vost and Ray Chang on Friday — and suceeded.

The outgoing board promised a “co-operative transition of the existing board to three new members”.

The new board is Jason Brewer, Patrick Glovac and Chris Zielinski.
