Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s getting the boot today?

Today’s intro will probably hit close to home for Brisbane-based Stockhead readers.
It concerns a beloved local landmark in the form on an old brown boot, which sits atop a carpark on the city’s north side.
The boot dates back to a World War II-era shoe store, and has moved around various locations over the years.
But local residents grew suspicious when they spied a crane setting up shop next door. Clearly the boot was about to be transported somewhere, which sparked concerns that its final destination was the oversized-boot graveyard.
Admittedly, the boot’s extensive lifespan has left it looking somewhat like the worn footwear of an ANZAC digger after a hike up the Kokoda Trail.
But in fact, that was the point of the crane — to lift the boot offsite where it will undergo a much-needed shoe shine. The boot was last seen on the back of a truck heading to the repair shop.
To markets, and local stocks held their own off the back of a weak global lead to start the day. The ASX200 was up a modest 0.07 per cent to 7,119 points, while the Small Ords performed better, up 0.77 per cent to 3,056 points.

The energy minnow — which owns and operates drilling and production rights in British Columbia — led the pack this morning after announcing it had acquired the Tommy Lakes Field adjacent to its current operations.
The acquisition “significantly reduces capital cost however, just as importantly, avoids the time involved in permitting and constructing new facilities”, managing director Alan Stein said.

Aside from the usual round of minnow stocks which ticked lower, the majority of large falls seen this morning were due to negative market reactions in response to half-year reporting results.
