The big leapers were out in force over the weekend.

The event? This year’s NBA slam-dunk competition, which often headlines the league’s annual All-Star festivities.

While the dunk comp sometimes falls flat, this year’s event turned some heads as two players — Aaron Gordon and Derrick Jones Jr — both engaged in some otherworldly displays of athleticism reminiscent of the popular 90’s video game NBA Jam.

This effort from Gordon probably stole the show:

Gordon followed up by jumping over Tacko Fall, the tallest player in the league at 7’5 (a casual 226cm).

But when it was all said and done, he came off second-best to Jones (who did throw down some huge dunks himself), in a controversial result that many fans felt was akin to daylight robbery.

Turning to markets, and local stocks got off to a sluggish start this week as the ASX200 fell 7,110 into midday trade — a loss of 0.29 per cent. The ASX Small Ords was down 0.17 per cent to 3,052.
