Is there anything robots can’t do? If there’s any list, basketball is now off it.

Actually robots have been shooting basketball hoops for a while but this robot, developed by Toyota has won a Guinness World Record for it – “most consecutive basketball free throws by a humanoid robot (assisted)”.

In seven hours, it shot 2,020 consecutive hoops. Admittedly it was standing still so we won’t be seeing the robot playing a game anytime soon. But it was a great way to launch Guinness World Records day in Japan – which is November 14. We’re confident in saying there’s something for everyone.

Speaking of records, we have record low interest rates. After spending the last month revelling from the last cut, its no surprise our market is up again today, but only slightly. The ASX Small Ords is up 8 points to 2,875 or by 0.29 per cent.

Going up

There is a good mix of industries among the winners today. Silver Chef (ASX:SIV) has more than doubled after announcing it was getting taken over. Its up 105 per cent.

Connected IO (ASX:CIO) is up 67 per cent after record quarterly revenue figures. And gold explorer Alt Resources (ASX:ARS) is up 20 per cent following exploration success.

While capital raises can cause stocks to go down, Capricorn Metals (ASX:CMM) has actually gained today – 34 per cent. Perhaps announcing two new board appointments was the difference for them.
