Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who won’t take no for an answer today?
News
“Don’t take no for an answer.”
People who live by that motto are known to be tough cookies. And 89-year-old grandfather Roger Murray would rather go to jail than pay this particular parking fine.
His car slightly touched the parking spot’s lines.
Murray got a £50 ($89) fine. He’s refusing to pay and it’s now nearly tripled to £158 ($282).
The local Macclesfield council will hand the job to a debt-collection agency who will likely enter his house and repossess goods to pay the fine and “additional costs”.
“I probably should have paid the fine but there are times when you feel the thing [is] so unjust that you just make a stand,” Murray said. “If these hired thugs do break into my home I shall resist with which ever means possible.”
The council is standing its ground asserting: “The vehicle was positioned in a way that prevented other drivers from using the neighbouring parking space.”
You know who else won’t take no for an answer? The markets – they want more rate cuts.
Reserve Bank Governor Phillip Lowe will give a speech later this afternoon where he will give hints about whether more are coming and if so, when.
Westpac, which previously tipped one more rate cut in February, is now predicting two rate cuts by February with the first in October.
Today the ASX Small Ords has gained 0.80 per cent and hit 3,000 while the ASX 200 has gained 0.35 per cent to 6,800.
Race Oncology (ASX: RAC) gained nearly 40 per cent after announcing its first leukaemia patient had been treated in its drug’s clinical trial.
Cybersecurity stock Tesserent (ASX: TNT) has gained 17 per cent after investors warmed to its latest quarterly.
Bod Australia (ASX: BDA) is up 20 per cent after announcing its medical cannabis prescriptions had gone up 273 per cent in a month.
