Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who wants an AFL team today?

Tasmania’s been pushing for an AFL team of its own for many years now. Yesterday the states’ cries got more compelling – a media-backed petition hit its goal of 50,000 supporters.

One of the common arguments against a Tasmanian team is the North v South divide.

But as local tourism executive Luke Martin has pointed all 3 papers in the Apple Isle are united in a way they wouldn’t have been since Ricky Ponting’s playing days. Unfortunately, the AFL is still fixated on the Gold Coast – for now.

Today on the markets the ASX Small Ords down 0.08 per cent to 2,846 and the ASX 200 up 0.76 per cent to 6,597.

Going up

Michael Hill (ASX:MHJ) has gained 16 per cent after a positive quarterly in which sales increased 12 per cent. The jewellery retailer is now looking ahead to the Christmas season.

Buddy Technologies (ASX:BUD) announced it would begin pre-sales for its smart light this afternoon and its up 25 per cent today.

Spectrum Metals (ASX:SPX), one of this year’s top small cap gainers, is being sued by Venus Metals (ASX:VMC) over the sale of Penny West to Venus’ subsidiary Zebra Metals. Spectrum has fallen 25 per cent.
