The ASX 200 index closed near its lows Thursday, falling by 0.26% on lower-than-normal volume.

Nine out of 11 sectors were lower, led by Health Care, which lost 1.44%.

The Materials sector – which includes chemicals and plastics, construction materials, wood products and metals and minerals — was a standout, gaining 1.23%.
