The ASX 200 finished lower for the second consecutive day, falling lower by 0.94% today as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Australia and across the globe.

Health Minister Greg Hunt however said that more than 10 million Australians have had their first COVID-19 jab, which is a significant milestone.

Banks, miners, and energy plays were the main drags on the bourse, falling by over 1% each while healthcare over-performed and rose by 0.5%.

But it was the Emerging ASX Emerging Companies Index (ASX:XEC) that took the full brunt of the bearish sentiment, falling by 2.15%.

The small caps index experienced its worst day since June 21 this year, when it fell by 2.56%.
