A horticulture teacher from Minnesota has clinched the annual 47th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off with this 2,350lb (1,066kg) monster.

The gigantic gourd — which weighs about the same as a crappy hatchback – was driven 35 hours to the contest in the back of Travis Gienger’s ute.

He won $US16,450 for his efforts.

The world record was set by in 2016 by a Belgian farmer at the Giant Pumpkin European Championship in Germany. That behemoth weighed in 2,600 pounds (1,179 kilograms).

To markets — The ASX opened weaker before bouncing back, with the ASX 200 down only marginally by lunchtime Wednesday.

StemCell United (ASX:SCU) announced it had signed a joint venture to cultivate and farm sea grapes in Singapore – which would utilise the company’s plant stem cell technology.

And health software stock Global Health (ASX:GLH) announced a partnership with Asthma Australia.
