Fact of the Day: In addition to running one of the most powerful investment banks in the world, Goldman Sachs chief exec David Solomon is a surprisingly successful electronic dance music producer.
Since ~2018, 58-year-old Solomon has moonlighted as DJ ‘D-Sol’– playing all over the world and garnering a pretty substantial following in the process.
But it’s undoubtedly a part-time labour of love. In March, Solomon’s annual compensation from Goldman jumped 20 per cent to $27.5m. Not bad.

Solomon was opening act for US duo ‘The Chainsmokers’ at a benefit concert in New York last week – a concert that is now under investigation after videos revealed packed crowds ignoring COVID-19 health guidelines.
But you know who isn’t under investigation? Goldman Sachs itself, which has just agreed to a $US3.9bn deal with the Malaysian government over the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund scandal.
The government of Malaysia has now agreed to drop all criminal and regulatory proceedings involving the firm, Goldman Sachs said in a statement last week.
In Markets…
European share markets generally rose on Tuesday, while Wall Street eased as investors wait on confirmation of a fresh $1 trillion COVID-19 relief package.
The local bourse is off to a slow start on Wednesday. The financial sector was one of the big improvers, as industry regulator Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) eased restrictions around paying dividends.
