ASX Small Cap Lunch Wrap: Who’s feeling golden today?

Local stocks got off to a strong start this morning as sentiment globally continues to edge higher.
But while record COVID-19 stimulus measures continue to help keep a floor under stocks, all eyes are on the world’s precious metals after more big gains for gold and silver overnight.
Gold held its gains above $US1,970 an ounce ($2,750/oz) in morning Asian trade, with futures markets eclipsing the $US2,000oz mark shortly before midday AEST.
Spot silver prices also continued their recent tear, climbing above $US25 — the highest level since 2013.
And rounding out the big moves on the scarce-asset front, Bitcoin broke out of its recent slumber to rip above $US15,000.
Elsewhere, the US dollar’s recent slide has seen the Aussie dollar remain well-supported above US71c, while the focus will turn to US Congress this week where Republican and Democrat lawmakers are locked in a standoff about the size of follow-up stimulus measures.
