ASX Small Cap Lunch Wrap: Bulls battle the bears as stocks tread water to end the week

Is was mixed trading for ASX stocks to end the week this morning, after the US reported 50,000 new COVID-19 cases for the second straight day overnight.
The S&P500 still managed to close another 0.45 per cent higher, with US markets closed tonight to observe the Independence Day holiday (which falls on Saturday).
Earlier this morning, Australian retail sales rebounded sharply in May (as expected), with plenty of monthly volatility in the data after sales collapsed in April.
After a relatively wild week in small cap land — punctuated by a couple of monster intraday gains — the Small Ords Index struggled to hold above water and ended up 0.5 per cent lower by midday.
The big end of town was holding up better, as the ASX200 climbed by around 0.6 per cent to stay on track for its fourth straight day of gains.

Gains were led by pipe manufacturer Tubi (ASX:2BE), which surged in morning trade after announcing that production volumes rose by 55 per cent in the June quarter.
The pickup in activity was in response to a flurry of orders for its pipe materials — which help make pipes stronger and more cost effective — from US customers across various infrastructure sectors including oil, gas, irrigation and water.
Wireless communications company Mobilicom (ASX:MOB) also rose strongly after announcing the further strengthening of its partnership with a global drone manufacturer.
And shares in Advanced Braking Technology (ASX:ABV) rose by more than 40 per cent on the back of a technology licensing deal with VEEM Ltd, to “manufacture and supply ABT’s specialised park brake mechanism” for the Australian division of global defence and aerospace company Thales Group.
